Centra is pleased to announce that Bedford Memorial Hospital (BMH) was awarded the Small Rural Hospital Improvement Grant Program (SHIP Grant) by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), an agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
The SHIP grant is provided as a resource to rural hospitals to advance the use of state-of-the-art health information technology, critical equipment and training programs that support quality improvement initiatives. These initiatives include advancing patient care information, promoting interoperability and participating in accountable care organizations (ACOs) and shared savings programs.
BMH plans to use the grant to participate in the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association Rural Hospital Coaching Collaborative, a coalition of 18 rural hospitals across the commonwealth working together on financial planning, quality improvement and process improvement projects. The collaborative also offers training in critical areas such as safety, workforce development, emergency preparedness and behavioral health.
Through its focus on performance improvement initiatives targeting readmissions, sepsis management, and HCAHPS (Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems) improvement, BMH aims to elevate patient experiences and outcomes across the community.
