Our approach to education

Centra’s Health system encompassing a network of hospitals, primary care practices and multiple specialties provides ample opportunities for residents to gain hands-on clinical experience in an academic setting.

PGY-1

The majority of the PGY-1 year is spent caring for patients in the hospital setting. Adult medicine, pediatrics, emergency medicine, maternity care and surgery are hospital-based experiences. The Family Medicine Service allows the first-year resident to participate in the inpatient management of Lynchburg Family Medicine Residency patients.
