Our approach to care
Centra's Acute Rehabilitation Center is the only hospital-based inpatient rehabilitation facility (IRF) serving Lynchburg and surrounding counties. Our goal is to restore functional ability and quality of life to those recovering from serious illnesses, stroke, spinal cord injury, amputation and trauma. The inpatient team addresses difficulties with activities of daily living and offers specialized programs that assist with eating, communication, attention, and self-care.
Our team includes specially trained physicians and nurses, physical, occupational and speech therapists, social workers, nutritionists and wound care specialists.
Most patients are admitted from an acute-care hospital. To be admitted, prior hospitalization is not required; however, a significant medical need must be present. Patients must be medically stable with the potential to improve and have the ability to start a rehabilitation program.
Our experts in care treat the following conditions:
- Stroke/neurological disorders
- Brain injury
- Spinal cord injury
- Amputation
- Joint replacement
- Multiple trauma
- Advanced degenerative joint disease
- Congenital deformity
