About Me
Valerie St. John, MS, CCC-SLP received her master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) from James Madison University. She began her career as an SLP in an outpatient rehabilitation center that primarily served the pediatric population. In that setting, she saw clients in the office, in their homes for early intervention services, in local schools and Head Start Centers in Lynchburg, Bedford and Amherst.
After leaving the private practice setting, Valerie worked at several skilled nursing facilities in Altavista and Lynchburg. She has been working at the Autism and Development Services Clinic since November 2017.
Valerie is a Certified instructor in the Orton-Gillingham method for dyslexic readers. She was inspired to pursue certification in dyslexia training by many of her current clients who struggle to read. In her spare time, Valerie loves to work large jigsaw puzzles, listen to podcasts, cross-stitch, hike, ride bikes, walk, stargaze, watch sunrises and sunsets, find positive and inspirational sayings to post on Facebook, hangout in and on the water and visit with all the dogs and cats in the neighborhood.
