About Me
Chinmaya Mareddy, MD specializes in cardiology and cardiac electrophysiology. He cares for patients with heart rhythm abnormalities, including heart palpitations or rapid heartbeat, and light-headedness and fainting related to slow heart rhythms, or an abnormal electrical recording of the heart (also known as an ECG). He is experienced in helping patients with genetic conditions associated with abnormal heart rhythms, including hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathy (ARVC), Brugada syndrome (BrS) and long QT syndrome (LQTS).
Dr. Mareddy performs catheter ablation procedures for all kinds of abnormal heart rhythms (atrial fibrillation, supraventricular tachycardia, and ventricular tachycardia). He also implants pacemakers for patients with slow heart rhythms and heart failure and defibrillators for patients at risk of life-threatening heart rhythm disorders. This includes both traditional implantable defibrillators with leads in the circulation and subcutaneous defibrillators are those inserted under the skin. In addition, Dr. Mareddy has considerable expertise in implanting newer “leadless” pacemakers and conduction system pacing.
Dr. Mareddy is involved in research focusing on conduction system pacing – a pacing modality aims to emulate how normal electrical system works in the heart. He has a special interest in the outcomes of catheter ablation procedures. Dr. Mareddy also served on the committee of American College of Cardiology – National cardiovascular data registry for left atrial appendage occlusion devices (NCDR LAAO Registry) for 2 years where they oversee the research and publications related to this field.
Throughout his training, Dr. Mareddy has published many papers related to Cardiology and Cardiac electrophysiology. Born and raised in South India, he attended Guntur Medical College, one of the top public medical schools in the state, where he also did an internship prior to coming to United States. He then did his Internal Medicine residency at Allegheny Health Network in Pittsburgh and went on to training in cardiovascular disease at Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University. He served as a Chief cardiology fellow during his time in Georgia. He also completed an MBA from Hull College of Business at Augusta University and was inducted in Beta Gamma Sigma honor roll. He then completed an advanced fellowship in cardiac electrophysiology at UVA before joining the Heart Rhythm Center at Stroobants Heart and Vascular Institute in 2023.
Dr. Mareddy is married and his wife is a Nephrologist. Dr. Mareddy and his family are excited to serve the communities around Lynchburg. He played elite-level cricket during medical school and proudly represented his medical school as an opening batsman where they won collegiate level cricket tournament. Today, he stays fit by road cycling and chasing after his toddler.
